In the Butchulla people's language, Fraser Island is known as “K'gari” (pronounced “gurri”) meaning “paradise”. Butchulla translates as “the sea people”. Archaeological evidence suggests Aboriginal settlements existed on Fraser Island at least 5000 years ago. The Butchulla people are the Traditional Owners of K'gari (Fraser Island) and for perhaps as many as 50,000 years, the Butchulla people lived in harmony with the seasons and the land and sea, maintaining a balance between spiritual, social and family connections. Eli Creek, the largest creek on the eastern beach of Fraser Island, pours up to four million litres of clear, fresh water into the ocean every hour. Eli Creek is a popular picnic and swimming spot, with a boardwalk that follows the creek inland through banksia and pandanus.

- Maheno washed ashore on Fraser Island by a cyclone in 1935 where the disintegrating wreck remains as a popular tourist attraction. SS Maheno was an ocean liner belonging to the Union Company of New Zealand, crossing between New Zealand and Australia, from 1905 until 1935.
Central Station Rainforest
Originally established as a forestry camp, Central Station is one of the many sought after stops on Fraser Island. The beautiful rainforest various flora and fauna are a short boardwalk around Wanggoolba Creek and through the beautiful Fraser Island rainforest.
Indian Head is the most easterly point of Fraser Island located at one end of Seventy Five Mile Beach. Named by Captain Cook when he passed it on the evening of 19 May 1770, Indian Head is the premier place to spot wildlife and provides panoramic views as far as the eye can see.
